A letter for Parents

21st Dec 2020

Dear Parent

I hope you and your family are keeping well despite the strange times we continue to find ourselves in.

We have reached the end of what has been a very different school term, different than anything that we have experienced before. To comply with the ever-changing health and safety regulations associated with COVID19 the whole school community have had to adapt and change the way we do things in order to keep everyone safe. Thankfully, we have reached this stage with everyone safe and in good health.

I want to thank our children for the way they have blended into the new school procedures and policies and they deserve great credit for their eagerness to get back to school. We have had to change to new online based homework platforms which the children have embraced fully. This work is celebrated in our year group assemblies and is a reflection of the great efforts children are making to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.

I also wish to thank our parents who have shown patience and understanding throughout this term and have supported the school staff. Your messages of good will and support are very much appreciated.

All of our school staff have been at the front line of ensuring that our children continue to get the best education possible. They also have had to adapt and change their practices and I would like to acknowledge their commitment to the school and the care that they provide every day to the children in Tannaghmore PS.

I also want to thank our school governors who work behind the scenes to make decisions with the children’s best interests at heart.

The information at present is that school will reopen as normal on Monday 4th January at 9am. If there is any official change to this, I will contact parents.

The School Holiday Food Grant payment scheme will cover a 14-day period and provide payments of £27 - equivalent to the value of ten school meals - to the family of each child entitled to Free School Meals over the Christmas holiday period.

I would like to wish you and your family a happy and safe Christmas and we look forward to a new year with fresh hope of a return to normality.

Best wishes

Seamus McCreesh
