Important Update: New School Uniform Policy from September 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to begin by extending my sincere thanks to the 231 families who participated in our recent Uniform Consultation. As a school community, we value your voice, and your feedback has been instrumental in shaping a policy that balances our proud school identity with the very real need for affordability and practicality.
Following a review of your feedback and the new statutory guidance from the Department of Education, the Board of Governors has ratified an updated Uniform Policy, which will come into effect from September 2026.
What is Changing and Why?
Our goal is to reduce the "basket cost" of our uniform by moving away from specialist, branded items where they are not strictly necessary for school identity.
1. Moving to Generic "Base Layers"
-
P1–P3 Pupils: We are replacing branded yellow polo shirts with plain, generic yellow polo shirts. These can be purchased in multi-packs from any high-street retailer or supermarket.
-
P4–P7 Pupils: We are moving from the bespoke green shirts to standard white school shirts/blouses. This change makes it easier and cheaper for parents to source replacements throughout the year.
2. Physical Education (PE) Kit
-
Routine: 99% of you expressed a preference for children wearing PE kits to school on designated days. We will continue this practice to maximise learning time.
-
PE Bottoms: We are removing the requirement for branded PE bottoms. Pupils should now wear plain black unbranded joggers, leggings, or shorts. This ensures you can buy affordable replacements easily if items are outgrown or damaged.
3. Retaining our Identity
To maintain our sense of community and ensure our pupils are easily identifiable during school trips and events, we will retain a small number of branded "outer layer" items:
-
The bottle green school jumper/cardigan (with crest).
-
The school tie (P4–P7).
-
The school branded PE top and 1/4 zip.
Summary Table: September 2026 Requirements

Our Commitment to Sustainability
In addition to these cost-saving measures, we will continue to grow our "Pre-loved Uniform" scheme. We encourage families to donate items that are in good condition so we can support one another and reduce our environmental impact. Thank you to the 'Friends of Tannaghmore' for supporting this initiative.
We believe these changes reflect the spirit of Tannaghmore PS—a school that listens to its families and strives for excellence while remaining inclusive and supportive of all.
Thank you for your continued support of our school and our pupils.
Yours sincerely,
Anne Davey
