Football can be cruel at times and today was the perfect example. The boys of Tannaghmore headed off to play in the annual St Ronan’s College blitz day. Playing great football all day both teams secured a semi final spot in their respective groups. Our first team saw off a fierce challenge from St John the Baptist and made it through to the now annual clash of neighbours St Francis. Our second team played brilliantly in their group and played even better in their semi final against St Patrick’s Aghagallon. In their final against St Brendan’s, they played hard and valiantly bur St Brendan’s were able to take their chances and finished strongly to win the cup. In the Fearghal McConville cup it was heartbreak, as Tannaghmore played their best game all day and battled so hard all over the pitch. With 15 seconds left and three points up, a high ball into our box was scrambled into the net at the death to secure a draw. That left golden score and with only one team able to win, it was St Francis who captured that elusive score. Our Tannaghmore boys should be so proud to have pushed a good team to the limit and we have no doubt, while devastated today, they will come back stronger.
